I was pretty excited to find.a builder that does everything in house. I was attracted to the company's social media presence and transparency. However, the social media marketing campaign is not representative of how this company truly operates.
First off, I was contacted (via text) by one of the employees asking a few questions on my build. The employee did not give any attention to the details I provided (VIA TEXT) and sent me some generic build quote which captured nothing of what I asked for, in particular, the price for a 3,500 sqft. concrete job. The quote did not have the concrete at 3,500 sqft listed.
In the quote text, I was told that if I had any questions that we could have a call to go over the details, of which I agreed to; NEVER CALLED.
So then, I decided to call the next day after which time I drew a mockup of exactly what I wanted in hopes of having a more productive conversation. Conversation was anything but productive, just an intake person. So to recap everything in a timeline:
8/26 0830: Received initial text from Wolf
8/26 1330: Received pointless quote, nothing of what I asked for. Did not receive call as discussed via text.
8/27 1100: I call WolfSteel and provide them with a graphic of the project. of which I was told "We will get an updated quote to you either today or tomorrow".
8/28 1430: New person from Wolf reaches out asking about the doors I wanted. I said I wanted RESIDENTIAL DOORS.
8/29 1553: "Hi Casey. ***** here with WolfSteel and my apologies for the late response. Just a quick update on my end, I'm still in the process of finalizing the quote for your project. I should have it ready and sent out by tomorrow."
8/30 ("Tomorrow"): Crickets
Labor Day weekend goes by..
9/3 0849: "Good morning Casey, it's ****** here :)
Apologies for the late update. I just heard back from the team that the estimated cost for a 3500 concrete driveway is more or less $30k (may still change after a site visit). What do you think of this? Also, are you okay with increasing the leg height to 13' so we can fit the 2 roll-up doors on the front?"
After I literally said I do not want roll up doors (VIA TEXT), we are still talking about roll up doors. Also, the mockup that I sent over, calls for roughly 5,000 sqft. I had said 3,500 sqft. originally but concluded it would be closer to 5,000 after drafting a mockup and getting actual measurements.
So it was evident that no one looked at the mockup since they were still using the 3,500 number.
And what on earth does more or less $30k even mean? That could be $150k (more) or $15k (less). No sense of communication skills with this company whatsoever.
So in summary, my recommendation to this company is to take the time, effort, and money you put into your social media foot print and redirect it to proper training for your staff.
If this is how the beginning of the project was handled, I could only imagine the challenges we would have faced if we would have broken ground with this company.
