When direct access isn’t possible, you may need a concrete pump to move concrete from the truck to the foundation. This can help us complete the pour while protecting your property and surrounding areas. However, it can also add to your overall project cost.

It also helps us move concrete over, around, or through areas that would otherwise make a traditional pour difficult.

What are the Three Types of Concrete Pumps?

For most metal building projects, the two types you’re most likely to encounter are line pumps (ground pumps) and boom pumps, which we’ll cover in more detail below.
The third type, a telebelt pump, uses a conveyor belt system to transport and place concrete across the jobsite. Depending on the equipment, a telebelt can reach up to 100 feet and rotate 360 degrees, giving the crew greater flexibility when placing concrete in hard-to-reach areas.
Line Pump
Line pumps, also referred to as ground pumps, serve as versatile construction equipment that can pump concrete mix through hoses at ground level or in areas with limited accessibility.
These are often used in residential construction projects for placing concrete in foundations, slabs, driveways, and other ground-level structures, where you may not be able to park the concrete pump truck in an accessible location.
Moreover, this type of pumps are suitable for projects that don’t require extensive reach or elevation. They are also commonly used in projects like home additions, garages, patios, and sidewalks.
Boom Pump
Contrary to ground-level line pumps, Boom pumps extend through the air. A remote-controlled robotic arm, known as a boom, is affixed to a truck or semi-trailer for precise concrete placement, accommodating significant concrete volumes. The truck typically remains stationary throughout the pour pump’s hopper.
Boom pumps are commonly used for areas that are difficult to reach by ground pump. It is usually used in the construction of tall structures, such as skyscrapers and apartment complexes. If your slab is larger than 2000 square feet, an overhead boom pump may save time and reduce labor.
Their ability to reach great heights makes them important for delivering concrete to upper floors. Other common applications of boom pumps are building bridges and overpasses, large-scale infrastructure projects, and commercial construction.
How Much Does Concrete Pump Rental Cost?
When we offer a quote for concrete pump rental, the cost will vary depending on the complexity of the square footage, site conditions, pour date, and location.
In the Dallas/Fort Worth area, a line pump for a 500 to 2,400 square foot slab will cost around $900 to $2,000. A boom pump will cost approximately $1,100 to $2,500. This charge could be included in your site preparation costs, as the need for a pump will only be determined after an on-site inspection by our site coordinator.
