Texas Metal Building with a Roll Up Door

Texas Metal Building with a Roll Up Door

Roll-up doors are an excellent, cost-effective option for your Texas metal buildings. It is designed to coil into a barrel above the opening which provides maximized internal usable space. But how does it work?

Depending on the size, the roll up doors may have different ways on how to operate them. Today, we’ll look into how a 10×10 roll up door works.

Basic Components of a Roll Up Door

Door Slats – It’s the coil or the sheet metal that rolls up and down and is made of 26G steel.

Spring System – A torsion spring or extension springs that help counterbalance the weight of the door, making it easier to open and close.

Header – The top part of the door frame, where the door rolls up into when open.

Lock – Keep the door secured when not in use.

Side Guides – Vertical components that keep the door aligned as it rolls up and down.

How Does It Work?

A rolling door consists of small, interlocking horizontal slats that, when lifted, travel along a track and coil around a drum directly overhead. They can roll into a coil due to their great flexibility, which is due to the thinness of the slats. The slats on rolling steel are much thinner than those of traditional overhead doors.

For roll up doors that are 10 feet or smaller, the lock is usually placed outside, hence, these doors can be opened from the outside.

Normally, the door has enough tension to roll up by itself but you can always adjust it. Let your builder know about it if you want it light or adjust it to your preferred type of strength.
